If you experience any network connection errors on Steam, please follow the steps listed below.

1. Check Steam server status

  • Go to the Steam status page to see if Steam is inactive.
  • Timeout issues when accessing the Steam website may be caused by a system-wide error, which means that you can only access the service after these issues are resolved.

2. Inspect internet router and network

  • Reboot your internet router or use an Ethernet connection.

3. Inspect firewall settings

  • Check your firewall settings to make sure Steam isn't blocked.
  • Note: If you are installing Steam for the first time or have updated it recently, your firewall may cause you to experience difficulties connecting to Steam, even if it previously functioned properly.

4. Disable non-essential software

  • Running software which interferes with Steam may prevent the game from properly launching.
  • Disable Discord, NVIDIA GeForce Experience, and any other background applications that generate overlays or have high memory usage.

5. Scan for malware

  •  Scan for and remove any viruses, adware, or spyware.
